Day 1

We follow an old donkey trail up to the mountains through a Cypress forrest and past an old village destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. We pass olive trees, abandon gardens and fruit orchards. All the way we have a beautiful view of the bay of Sami and the neighboring islands.

day 2

We climb up the mountains up to 1000 meters high to see 2000-3000 year-old olive trees and enjoy a breathtaking view over the islands Ithaca and Lefkada, the mainland and the bay of Sami.

day 3

We ride in the countryside and climb up to an old village which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. This ride shows you the beautiful rural areas that Kefalonia has to offer.

day 4

This ride takes us to four old villages destroyed by the earthquake where we can enjoy a great view over the valley and the cypress tree forrest. We pass some other ancient historic buildings to get a feeling for how life in Greece was back then.

day 5-6

After breakfast we start with a ride down to the beach where the experienced riders can go swimming with the horses. After this beautiful experience we pass the Melissani Cave where you have the option to take a closer look and enjoy the amazing sight. Next we ride trough two old villages that have been destroyed by the earthquake in 1953 (one of the locations is well-known from the movie “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”) and enjoy a picnic in the location. From there we continue high up in the mountains (up to 1000 meters) and pass an old cork-oak forrest where we have a great view over the country- and seaside over the mainland and the neighboring islands.

We continue to a beautiful secret place in the middle of the forrest: a hunting house where we have a campfire (or fireplace inside, depending on the weather) and a barbecue. We spend the evening together with Greek house wine and a meal which is prepared for everybody including vegetarians. We can sleep in bunk beds. In the next morning after breakfast we pass a village with a 500 years old farm on our way home and we visit an old family church made out of cypress wood. Then we do some sightseeing by an old olive-mill where you have the chance to taste the Greek schnapps Zypero. Furthermore, there will be a Greek picnic waiting for us. From there we continue to the Drogarati Cave where you have the chance to visit the cave.

The last part of our ride takes us to a beautiful forrest with four old water mills and a 600 years old bridge in a canyon. From there we head back home to the stables.
